A new scandal is raising questions about John McCain’s VP choice, Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin.

The National Enquirer reports that the Sarah Palin has been involved in an adulterous affair with her husband’s business partner.

The McCain campaign has gone into damage control, issuing a statement condemning the charges by the supermarket tabloid.

While the tabloid is known for tawdry news coverage, it doesn’t show any bias when it comes to digging up scandal. The Enquirer was one of the first news sources to reveal 2004 Democratic Vice Presidential nominee John Edwards affair with a campaign aide.

Steve Schmidt, a senior official on the McCain campaign, denounced the cover story. “The smearing of the Palin family must end,” he told the press. “The allegations contained on the cover of the National Enquirer insinuating that Gov. Palin had an extramarital affair are categorically false. It is a vicious lie.”
